Steeped in royalty, castles, and traditional pubs, England holds a plethora of options for travellers of all ages and budgets. If only the weather would improve!
London is a must-visit on any UK tour, and the beautifully green countryside is easily accessible by car, trains, and buses.
Whether you love Harry Potter, Jack the Ripper, The Beatles, or David Beckham, there’s something for you in England.

TIME FRAME?

One week in London to see the sights

Two to three weeks to make a descent loop around London, Bath, Oxford, and Cambridge

One month + to travel through England, drive or take trains around the loop, and/or then head north into the Lake District and northern cities.

TRAVELLING ENGLAND?

In London, you must get an Oyster card (a transport card) as the Underground and bus system is the easiest and fastest way to get around the city. London is one massive city, so be prepared to spend over an hour getting from one side of the city to the other.

The regional trains can get very expensive especially if you buy your tickets last minute, book as far in advance as possible.

I find it’s more economical sometimes to hire a car if you travelling the countryside, I would however, avoid driving at peak hours in and out of London. There are ‘park & ride’ schemes in most of the cities, I found these to be the best option in Bath, Oxford and Cambridge.

MY BEST ADVICE?

  • Be prepared for crowds in London, particularly during the summer.
  • Do a bit of research before picking your travel dates. Is Wimbledon on? Is there a major holiday or event that is going to cause congestion and hike prices?
  • Pack an umbrella every time you leave the house, even in summer!
